Our trip to Germany

The Comenius program our school is participating in has already taken us to Wales. Now it was time for our meeting in Bonn, Germany. Our German friends were very kind to us and they prepared a lot of fun activities to do together.

On Thursday, the day of our arrival our German guide took us to the historical part of Bonn. And then instead of ice – skating we decided to see the Museum of German history. Later that day we were picked up by our “new families”.

Bonn      Friday was a working day for us. After having a look on their lessons, all of us started working on our webpage. We were successful in our cooperation and at around 3 o´clock we got our well – deserved break. We went climbing and then we fired – up the bowling alley. The late return home was followed by a good sleep, because Saturday was one of the best experiences.

Our German friends prepared for us a trip to Cologne. We visited “Die Münster Kirche” in Bonn as well. In the Dome of Cologne we spent an hour and then we could go shopping or see the nearby museums. After few hours we returned home and another great day was waiting ahead of us.

Bonn

Sunday was called a “Family day”. Each one of us spent a nice Sunday with their family. Families took us on a Sunday service and then we could do together whatever we wanted.

Although this trip lasted only 4 days, we won´t forget it. Our German friends were very kind and we enjoyed the entire 4 days with them. It was a great experience and we are looking forward to seeing them here in June.

Comenius program – Wales – the working part

The main reason why group of five students and two teachers went to Wales was to start doing the project of Comenius program. This-year´s task is to create a website of a virtual european teenager in school. In this programe there are involved  secondary schools from Wales – the leader of this project and the host school, Germany-Bonn and our school. We are devided into five groups:

1. Video and photographic evidence of school life

2. Schedule/timetable/subjects studied

3. Uniform/dress/food

4. Religion/history of school/charitable undertakings

5. Sport/art/drama/music

We met together on the 20th November with students of these schools to start to do our task. During a meeting in the groups we were talking and sharing our ideas with the others about the content of our section on the wesite. We put down points which would be mentioned in our section. We were also supposed to draw what the website should look like (the organization on the website). After the lunch we met all together and one member from each group introduced their ideas to the audience – other members of groups and the teachers. Later on we had the second group meeting where we agreed on the deadlines until we´ll prepare and write something. Then came the moment when we started to design the site but only the main things – where to put the logo of Comenius, some visual matters,...

And now, we´re performing our tasks and looking forward to the next ‘business trip’ to Bonn. Hopefully, by the end of the school year you´ll be able to see our webpage. For futher information about this project and program see www.gcm.sk, there click the logo of Comenius on the right site.

Trip to Liverpool

It was 9 o’clock on Saturday morning when we got into an old bus to get to Liverpool. After we finally arrived to our destination the first thing we saw was (Paddy’s wigwam). It was a wonderful monumental circle building perfectly designed in modern style. The inside was furnished by modern sculptures and everything was made of original material. From tall walls were hanging many fantastic huge colourful pictures showing the people underneath the scenes from the Holy Bible. The roof was in a blue and red window-pane which causes that when the light comes through it, the cathedral is like in the rainbow.

The second thing we could see was the Museum of Titanic and Louisiana and Museum of slavery. It was amazing to watch all the things there and it was educating, too. We spent there almost an hour and then we could go wherever we wanted. So we split into two groups of teachers and of girls and went to have a look at Liverpool. We have seen many great and interesting things. Mostly we were trying to find some souvenir shop, but we also went to Liverpool’s Eye Wheel from which we could see a wonderful view at the whole Liverpool.

After we met the whole Comenius group we got to the bus and drove back to Colwyn Bay. Anyway, this trip was one of my best ever and I will remember it with delight.
